Champions For Children 5K
As the weather warms up, we all want more ways to spend time outside. And if you’re looking for an event that benefits a great cause, we have the perfect option for you. Get your running shoes ready for the Champions for Children 5K.
About the Event
This is going to be a great race. Make sure you head over to the Great Meadow Foundation the morning of Saturday, April 13. The race starts at 9 a.m., but you’ll want to arrive a little before that to line up. Registration and packet pickup will be from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m. You can find the race location at 5089 Old Tavern Road, The Plains.
If you register ahead of time, the 5K race costs $25. If you register the day of the event, it costs $30. But in addition to getting you in the race, this money also goes to a great cause.
All proceeds from the Champions for Children 5K will benefit foster children in Fauquier County. While a foster care stipend covers the basic needs of foster children, many foster children and foster families have trouble affording extracurricular activities. These can include:
- Sports
- Prom
- Homecoming
- Yearbooks
- Birthday gifts
- Christmas gifts
- Graduation expenses
But by running in the Champions for Children 5K, you can help cover these expenses. The race is hosted by Fauquier County Department of Social Services, so you know the funds are going to a great cause. Plus, you’ll have a great time running this race. There will be prizes for the fastest runners in the following categories:
- Male Overall
- Female Overall
- Male 19 & Under
- Female 19 & Under
- Male 20-39
- Female 20-39
- Male 40-59
- Female 40-59
- Male 60 & Over
- Female 60 & Over
And once you’re done with the race, be sure to hang out for a while. There will be a finish line celebration starting at 10 a.m.
